Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask | Review

Hi Beauties,

Today I will review one of my most desired products in the recent past. I have been longing to try out an overnight mask since I had only read about it but never tried. This desire finally materialized when I purchased Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. During winter season my skin is totally the opposite as to summers. While in summers it is all oily and shiny, I can’t even call it combination skin; in winters except for my nose and chin it becomes dry, patchy and dehydrated especially around the laugh lines and cheeks. This adds a rough and dull texture to my skin as if moisture has been sucked away! Since the weather is getting colder and the breeze a bit harsh on my skin I thought I would start with the basics of my winter skin care regime – face scrub and overnight mask. While there are tons of overnight masks out there in the market, I opted for Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

This 100ml squeezy tube contains moisture boost wrapped in luxury. The packaging is green on the outside but the tube is nude pink and looks lovely. The texture is creamy neither too thick like a body butter nor thin like a moisturizer. This lightweight, non-greasy mask is oil-ree and is almost the same color as the packaging which is nude pink with just a hint of dewy fragrance. Even though I have only applied it only a few times just to give my skin an instant boost, it gave me really good results. I am still keeping it for the upcoming cold weather and it is only then I would take this to a strict test to know for sure if it can handle my withered winter skin. As far as the application is concerned the creamy texture makes it smooth and so easy to apply. After removing my makeup and cleansing before going to bed I applied the mask all over my face evenly and massaged. By this time I thought to myself, ‘how would I sleep with a mask on my skin’? ‘Would it all come off on my bed sheet’? Worry not, after you apply this mask, watch it slowly ‘sink’ into your skin until it’s completely absorbed! Slip into your bed and dream of soft, dewy, glowing skin.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

Here’s how Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask works. This luxurious nighttime ritual deeply hydrates the skin and ensures a protective moisture barrier. So while you are dreaming at night the creamy, penetrating mask helps skin “drink in” all that is required to help replenish lost moisture and build reserve for the next day. If you are someone like me who not only suffers from skin misbehavior but also a lot of stress due to your work routine, Aloe and other plant extracts added to this mask will help calm the stresses of the day. Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask helps nourish the lipids that naturally hold in skin moisture. So as I wake up in the morning my skin felt FRESH and looked definitely plump, supple and luminous as it promises! It felt moist with no dry patches. My foundation felt gliding over my moisture-injected skin which NO dry patches.
Like me - do you HATE it when even after applying a moisturizer your skin shows up a few dry patches once you apply the foundation? Happens to me all the time in winters! Hence, the satisfaction is immense.

However, the best part is that Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask did not give me breakouts which I mentally prepared myself for but really hoped it doesn’t happen. Though my skin is combination-to-dry during winters it can still give me acne here and there. Reason being that no matter how dry or stressed your skin is, a deep moisturizer will help your skin moisten but might end up in acne. So the next time you pick up a deep moisturizer during those cold days think twice! While this Overnight Mask is oil free and works great on combination and dry skin however in my personal opinion I would not recommend it for anyone with oily skin as it might give you acne. Also, it might not give you results in summers and during daytime. So keep it for the winter nights.

This mask is equally good if you are looking for anti-aging skin care. Now I am also assuming it would work great for sensitive skin but please make sure beforehand. I plan to apply it at least twice a week for better results but might make it more often as needed. As for now I can safely say I got what I desired from Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask – moisture filled plumper, brighter skin.

NOTD | Newspaper Nails

Hi lovelies,

As autumn is setting in, everyone in blogosphere is talking about fall nails and shades of the season. I can see there are beautiful burgundys, terracotta, deep blues and purple nail shades out at this time of the year. But what if you wanted something different? Something understated yet giving you a feel of the changing colors in nature and crisper weather, something that stands out from the rest. Here’s my version of fall 2013 nails.

After much consideration I thought I would start my fall 2013 nails with newspaper nail art. I have chosen a nude, pale pinkish tone base that holds a little shimmer. For me this nude tone represents the evaporation of bright summer hues of salmon pinks, radical reds and fuchsia as autumn arrives slowly.  The shade has faded with the fading colors of nature but there is still time for everything to dehydrate and turn to rust. My inspiration is my candle lit room over a chilly weekend inside my comfy bed with a classic book in my hands. If you are a book lover like myself (who loves collecting books but never has the time to read them!?) these will surely be an inspiration for you as well.

Newspaper nails are really easy to achieve – especially when you follow my instructions.

Things you’ll need
Nail polish (the lighter, the better)
Top coat (I used the wet look top coat)
Newspaper strips (I used the part where there was A LOT of text. Hint: business section lol!)
Solution (Alcohol, perfume, mouthwash, water, hand sanitizer)
Scissors

Newspaper Nails

Step 1: Nail Polish Base
Apply your base nail polish. I applied 2-3 coats to get a good solid color.
Let it COMPLETELY dry. I gave it a good 30 mins.

Step 2: Newspaper Strips
Cut 10 newspaper strips in the size 2” x 2“. Try different fonts and text sizes. I used smaller font for this tutorial. You can even try foreign language newspaper for a more diverse pattern.

Step 3: Newspaper Imprinting
Dip you finger in the solution for 5-10 seconds.
Place the newspaper strip on your nail and press gently. Do not press too hard or you’ll end up with bits of paper on your nails. Don’t worry about the text on the newspaper it will always appear in reverse. Also, if you do this step while your nail polish is still tacky it is going to come off with the newspaper. I waited 30 seconds before I gently removed the newspaper.
Repeat this process for each nail.
Let everything dry. I gave myself good 5-10 mins.

Step 4: Top Coat – seal the deal!
Apply top coat. This will ensure that the ink pattern is sealed on the nails and would also intensify the letters. Again if you’re hasty in applying the top coat you’ll end up with a runny pattern.
Let everything dry & voila!

Newspaper Nails

There are loads of shades you can use as your base color. Even the French manicure base coat works great. I used a pinkish base coat that has the tiniest bit of simmer (not glitter). A lighter shade will make your text appear brighter. However you can always try a darker shade. Avoid glitter nail polish for obvious reasons – text would not emboss on your nail as much as on a smoother surface. Creamy, non-shimmery nail polish texture gives you the best results.

Enjoy the typographic effect on your nails!

L'Oreal True Match Foundation | Rose Ivory

Bonjour lovely ladies!

In my previous posts I have been mentioning a lot about how I have been repeatedly asked by my skin specialist to strictly wear sunblock to avoid skin damage. But sunblocks were something I never used for more than two days in a row! I hate the way their texture is. I hate the way they make my skin look so oily and shiny. But ultimately I had to give in. I started wearing sunblock in the mornings before applying my makeup but then a new problem arose. My makeup just wouldn’t stick in place over the layer of sunblock. Did I mention I never used foundation before? Yes – I never wore foundation other than on formal occasions. But this time I really wanted to strictly follow the sunblock routine. I knew how sun rays can damage your skin and how essential it is for everyone to keep their skins protected. I wanted to continue wearing sunblock but what about my makeup?

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

This led me to L’Oreal True Match Foundation – I picked C1 Rose Ivory for my pale, yellow undertone skin. I needed something over the layer of sunblock to get rid of that oily look and also hold my makeup together in a really nice way without over doing it. Remember I work 9-6 at a corporate headquarters and can’t really afford that cake-look. It had to be something light and L’Oreal True Match Foundation does this so beautifully. Should I mention I’m a regular sunblock user now and never leave home without it even on cloudy days? Yay!

I love the consistency of this foundation and the coverage is light to medium which works perfect for me. I do not want something which is too light and sheer. On the other hand I do not need full coverage. Since I have never been a huge fan of foundations in the past L’Oreal True Match Foundation is a jackpot! Consider this: it is a top drugstore brand with good quality, affordable price tags and great finish. To top it off its oil free and did not give me any breakouts whatsoever yet did not leave dry skin patches either. It blends in so well and wouldn’t take ages to set on your skin. The finish is a nice matte but it does give my skin a slight glow on the cheeks. But to be honest the best part is that it stays good the entire day. That is from 8:00 am till late in the evening. Later in the day my skin does get a little shiny but that is fixed by a bit of loose powder over the area which need a bit of patting. The pump dispense gives you a lot of control. I usually use just one pump for the entire face and neck. The coverage however is buildable. If you feel you need a bit more use 2 pumps one after another.

L'Oreal True Match Foundation gives you a flawless coverage. It’s super-blendable and matches your skin tone and texture. I like the fact that even tough with light to medium coverage it will manage to hide your skin imperfections and make it look flawless. I have purchased L'Oreal True Match Foundation twice now. And I’m hoping to repurchase it in the future as well. Until I buy some high-end premium brands like Chanel in the near future Im sure I’ll stick to L'Oreal True Match Foundation.

I know a lot of you have tried it out. How did you find it?

NOTD | Maybelline Apple Candy & ArtDeco Ombre

Hi lovelies!

It has been a while I did a NOTD post. As I was sitting thinking what nail polishes or nail art I should come up with for this post I also thought how about if I should re-use my old nail polishes rather than new ones. After all we don’t throw away a nail polish after using it just once. I also wanted to challenge myself to see what I can create from what I already have. Hypothesis of my Project Duex is that it's going to be awesome!

So today I used two of my most favorite nail polishes, reviews of which I have already posted in the past. The first one is Maybelline ColoRama in Apple Candy and the second is ArtDeco's 11.292 which is a beautiful gold glitter nail polish. Here is how I created this. I started with clean nails and applied 3 coats of Apple Candy. I wanted the color to be really rich and deep. Once completely dry I took a small piece of sponge and dabbed very gently my next nail polish which is ArtDeco's 11.292 gold shimmer. This time I worked from the tip of the nail and backwards. With very gentle patting I tried to create a gradient. I repeated this multiple times until I was convinced that I had achieved the look I wanted to create. Voila!

If you plan to create a similar look for your nails here are my tips.

Once you apply your base nail polish give it plenty of time to settle down and dry completely. I went ahead to harvest my crops, collect pies, cheese, butter, sugar, wool and attend my sheep and cows at Hay-Day, my latest addiction! Ha-ha! If you do not, patting on another nail polish when the base is still tacky will create a mess and look untidy.

When applying your top nail polish to the sponge put as little as you can and work with that. If you feel all of it has been used put a little more. That would help you achieve a neat look.

Draw a horizontal imaginary line on your nail and try not to go too far ahead of this line. You want both shades to look balanced.

I think this looks stunning! And I saw so many people notice what I had done on my nails. I'm really proud and already thinking what else can I achieve with these two nail polishes - Project Duex.

Would you give it a try?

L'Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew Eye Cream

Hi lovelies,

I only recently thought I should add an eye cream to my daily skin care regime. The area under the eyes is naturally low in moisture. In my case it is very dry. I did not realise it until my skin specialist pointed that out. While I always thought eye creams were for mature skin, these could work equally well if you have tired eyes with dark circles and puffiness. Hence, my search for the right eye cream followed. 'Right' here means something which is not too light or heavy. Some eye creams can end up being sensitive to your eyes hence the irritation. So it has to be a quality formula and a trusted brand.

My search ended before it even started! I wanted to purchase a moisturising cream for my mom as a gift while I was in London so decided to go for Loreal Revitalift Laser Renew range. It was something affordable and new in stores. While I got I got Revitalift Laser Renew Anti Ageing Cream for my mom, I got for myself Revitalift Laser X3 Renew AdvancedAnti-Ageing Eye Cream. It is specifically formulated for the delicate under eye area and felt very light even for use in summers.

L’Oreal Revitalift Laser X3Renew Advanced Anti-Ageing Eye Cream is not a laser treatment but it sure will give you an intense result by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and bags around the eye area often due to lack of sleep. One is supposed to see visible results in just 4 weeks. Here is how the triple action formula works:

Re plumps Wrinkle: Enriched with Hyaluronic acid, considered an effective moisture magnet found naturally in skin, for a stimulating effect. It helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Reduce Eye Bags: Enriched with caffeine the formula when applied with its cool metallic tip applicator hydrates the skin leaving it feeling refreshed hence the eye bags appear reduced.

Firms Skin: Enriched with Pro-Xylane known for its anti-ageing properties leaves skin firmer and toned.

This eye cream comes in a vibrant packaging of deep red and charcoal grey. I love the metallic tip which gives you a cooling and relaxing massage effect while you apply. Sometimes I would wait for a minute to allow it to cool down and start massaging with it again. The texture is delicate and so velvety yet so light. Plus it smells so pleasant. Soon after I applied this to my eye contour area, my skin felt hydrated instantly, smooth and refreshed! I also apply it before applying makeup so that once I apply compact powder my skin under the eyes does not feel overly dry. I personally found this product to be a quality product delivering what it says over the packaging.

If you are somebody who is concerned about dry skin especially under the eyes or you want to treat your eye bags and puffiness, this will do wonders to your skin. Find out more on this range by clicking here
