I Count Your Eyelashes Secretly..

Beauty Lesson No 1NEVER underestimate the importance of an eyelash curler!

Our eyelashes grow at the edge of our eyelids & are sensitive to being ‘touched’. These protect our eyes from dust & provide a warning when an object, insect or dust is close to the eyes, which are then closed reflexively. Long eyelashes are considered a sign of beauty & femininity in many cultures. It has been a standard of beauty since ancient times. Accordingly, women seek to enhance their eyelashes in many ways using lash extensions, fake lashes & so on. For people like me who have short lashes & do not wish to go to drastic lengths to enhance their lashes, despair not, help is on its way. :)

Beauty Tools: Eye Lash Curler

One of my most favorite beauty tools is an eyelash curler. I was looking for one ever since I lost the rubber pad of previous one I had. Being an Oriflame Consultant  I feel the need to try out their products from time to time so that it’s easier for me to give inputs to my clients. With my last order I purchased their eyelash curler & boy did I hit a jackpot! Firstly, it came in a very nice transparent plastic packaging. The deep plum rubber pad looked so neat with that ultra-smooth finish which reflected light so well. The cutest part – a tiny Oriflame logo in the middle! :) I wanted to use it after I do the photo-shoot but out of curiosity I just took it out of my handbag while on my way to work to check it out. The moment I curled my lashes I felt something really different about it but I just could understand what it was. It took me no more than a few seconds to realize that it’s actually the width of the curler itself! This eyelash curler is wider than your regular curler! It catches each lash from the inside corner of the eye to the outside & leaves each lash beautifully lifted & curled. The extra width also helps prevent pinching of the eyelids. Plus it comes with a replacement rubber pad attached to its handle.

Just under Rs. 300 this is an affordable & a must-have for anyone who wants to invest in beauty tools without worrying about their budget.

To create those glamour eye lashes, first curl your lashes a couple of times to create a soft, natural curl. Next apply two coats of mascara. My favorite is the DMGM New 3 Step Mascara. And that’s it! This not only opens up your eyes & makes them look bigger, brighter but it also adds mystery & that drama to your eye makeup. Do try it out & let me know how it worked for you.

Jusqu'à la prochaine fois amoureux..!

Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue | The Body Shop

"Soften & revive your rough tired feet with a skin smoothing moisturizer that also cools & deodorizes - a customer favorite since 1985!"
Now, all of you are aware of my obsession with The Body Shop! One product that I recently repurchased is Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment. Such a treat for feet like mine - always on the go with a lot of exposure to dust.

Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment comes in a 100ml jar. The texture is almost like body butter with a nice hint of pink. It smells like peppermint, is crispy & clean. The main ingredients are Glycerin which is an effective moisturizer & Menthol which stimulates blood circulation.

Why I got this Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment in the first place? Well, I felt my feet were really dry, even in summers. Moreover, since I have naturally thin skin, sitting in one position would leave depression marks which have always made me a little uncomfortable.

How it works? After I shower, I massage this lotion into my feet & wear socks overnight. As soon as you apply it, your feet will instantly feel soft & moisturized. In the morning your feet are so well moisturized that you do not need to apply anything the whole day! Peppermint oil promotes a cooling sensation to leave feet feeling refreshed. Cocoa butter is a great moisturizer melting at body temperature. Sweet almond oil, with its rich fatty acids help restore skin’s moisture barrier. And grape extract is a fruit acid with gentle exfoliating properties.

What’s more! Check this out yourself.

A legend is born. “When the London Marathon started many of the runners complained about their sore feet. We discovered a very old remedy using oil pressed from peppermint leaves and another, which was an herbal infusion of the flowers of arnica, a mountain plant. We came up with a wonderful lotion made from peppermint and another ingredient s like cocoa butter and lanolin. It not only soothed tired feet and softened hard skin, it also helped inhibit foot odor – Founder Anita Roddick

One of the best purchases without doubt!

"My Beloved is to Me a Cluster of Henna Blossoms"

Henna (or Mehndi) holds alot of significance in the eastern traditions may it be weddings, Eids or other festivals. Henna is an ornament for the soon-to-be brides & in fact a whole ceremony is dedicated to it known as Rasm-e-Henna or Mehndi Ki RaatThe significance of henna is perhaps attributed to the symbolic meaning of Mehndi - Fertility
Henna Designs

For centuries, the art of body painting particularly hands & feet has been practiced in the east particularly India & the Middle East. Here, henna plant is believed to bring good fortune & love hence hold a very romantic association to it. The history of Henna goes back to 3400 BC in Egypt where mummified bodies with henna dyed hair & fingers are found. Even the mummy of Ramses II, among others appeared to have henna-ed fingertips & toes which was, interestingly, applied after his death.

In the Bible, Hebrew word kopher is used several times in Song of SolomonIn 1:14 it refers to henna as a plant & is symbolic of the perfume of henna flower.

14 My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms
from the vineyards of En Gedi.
This is corroborated by the mention of henna in 4:12-13 with other sweet smelling plants.
12 You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride;
you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.

13 Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates
   with choice fruits,
   with henna and nard,

14 nard and saffron,
   calamus and cinnamon,
with every kind of incense tree,
   with myrrh and aloes
   and all the finest spices.

Henna is not mentioned in the Holy Quran but it is referred several times in the Hadith literature. Sunan of Abu Dawood Hadith 4154 narrates:
Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: A woman made a sign from behind a curtain to indicate that she had a letter for the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him). The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) closed his hand, saying: I do not know this is a man's or a woman's hand. She said: No, a woman. He said: If you were a woman, you would make a difference to your nails, meaning with henna.

Henna plant is native to tropical & subtropical regions like South Asia, Africa & some parts of Asia. It is commercially cultivated in many countries like India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia & Egypt. Henna flower is delicate, petite & four petaled. Today, Henna is widely recognized as a wonderful way to dye skin & achieve different tattoo looks which last 1-2 weeks.

Henna inherits soothing qualities & traditionally applied on the palms of hands as they contain numerous nerve endings. It is also used as a coagulant for open wounds & a poultice made with henna leaves soothes burns & certain types of eczema.

I hope you enjoyed this informative post which was written in response to the magical festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr. Hope everyone is having a blessed Eid.

Lots of luv..

Magic Clay

Hi most beautifuls!

So you thought it would take me ages to try out the Oriflame Pure Nature Organic Burdock Extract Purifying Clay Mask I ordered last week? Wrong! :p To be honest I apparently tried it out in the evening the day I received it (yea, I was excited :$).

Why Burdock? Well I chose Burdock over Jasmine White Tea because I LOVE clay masks though I could have also tried Jasmine peel-off which is formulated for normal to combination skin. In my teens, I used to make home made masks using fuller's earth & egg white. Fuller's earth is a natural skin toner & cleanser & also improves blood circulation. But the best thing about it is the soothing, cool effect it gave the skin. Since that time I've been fond of clay masks for their relaxing effect.

Burdock, a prickly plant of Thistle family is native to the Eastern hemisphere. Its usually recognized by its lovely purple flowers. The root of Burdock has been used in traditional Chinese folk medicines & is found to be very useful in natural skin & hair care. It has astringent & antibacterial properties but is mostly used for its skin soothing benefits & treatment of acne.

Love at first sight! The adorable pastel pink tube contains 50ml of this magic clay. It has a comparatively small opening for controlled usage. The clay mask is white in color with medium texture & is one of the sweetest smelling of all clay masks I've used to date, Period. It kind of reminded me of Yardley English Rose Talc Perfume the moment I opened it. Amazingly beautiful aroma!

Easy to apply, this Pure Nature Organic Burdock Extract Purifying Clay Mask will give you a spa like experience as it relaxes your mind while gently pampering your skin giving it an instant boost & flowery glow! Highly recommended by me, add this to your weekend beauty regime as a must & don't forget to update me as well! <3

À bientôt..!

The 7 Biggest Beauty Sins!

Okay admit it!

We all are guilty of committing a beauty sin but it has been discovered that those indiscretions may be doing you more harm than you think. Read on to get the full list, some may surprise you.
#1 Sleeping with Your Makeup On!
       (I mean seriously!?)

This is an 'unforgivable' sin!

So you went out with the gurls or to this really glamorous wedding looking your best. The food, the glitterati, the fun. And before you know it you're face down on your bed. You'll wash that waterproof mascara & smokey eye off in the morning, right? Not so fast! Nighttime is your skin's time to repair itself. Leaving makeup on overnight is going to clog your pores & trap in dirt from the day. Moreover, if you're acne prone this is the worst thing you can do to your skin.

If you know you'll be lazy at night once you're back after all the fun, make sure you leave some makeup removing wipes by your bed side along with a mirror to give yourself a quick swipe before shutting your eyes.
   #2 Over Exfoliating

Exfoliating gets rid of all the dead skin cell on your face but at the same time it makes your skin more vulnerable to sun & your favorite products. A little exfoliating every now & then works wonders but exfoliate too much & you could be doing more harm than help to your skin.

How much is too much? I recommend a few times a week in summers but in winters keep it as low as once a week or you'll dry your skin out.
   #3 Over Moisturizing

Slathering your face in lotion especially in winters is a good for your skin, right? Not exactly. Over moisturizing can cause breakouts even in winters. It can also give you milia, tiny white spots formed when dead skin is trapped in the skin.

Serum is always a better option over lotion if you have an acne prone skin as it will help you keep your pores clean.
   #4 Popping Your Pimples

So tomorrow is a day you MUST look your best (date? ahem!) & whats worse than you walking around with a pimple on your face! Popping it is not the solution, unfortunately. Picking at your face leads to depressed scars, skin infections & even broken blood vessels. Use an acne gel or treatment to get rid of it without leaving behind a scar. If you absolutely must pop, use a warm cotton swab & press gently.
   #5 Not Getting Enough Sleep?

I know, I know. You don't have time to eat some days let alone get 7-8 hours of sleep. Bad news is: there is no way around to this beauty must! Nighttime is your skin's time to recover & rejuvenate. Apply all the makeup in the world & your skin is still not going to look good if you don't get enough sleep.

One way of catching up on sleep, if you're fall behind regularly is to turn off the lights, your pc & laptop & putting your cell phone on silent mode so that you can psychologically 'check out' & focus on sleep.

#6 Swapping Your Strand Shade Frequently

Trading your tress tint once in a while works fine but dyeing your hair too often leads to weaker hair hence hairfall. I had a colleague who was so badly hooked on coloring her hair & would change hair shade every 2 months! Funny part was, whenever I told her I was thinking of getting a hair color myself she would be on her knees asking me not to make such a terrible mistake. Get this: celebs change hair color often for their movie roles or to attract attention but they also do extra TLC & put in major moolah to undo the damage.

Here's tip: try distracting yourself. Get a new shade of lipstick or a hot nail color that's 'in' instead. When you finally get to the point where you have to color your coif then keep these in mind. Bleach is the most hair damaging agent so try not to use it before 6 weeks. Darker shades do less damage since you're not taking away any natural pigment of your hair (bleach remember?) so look for darker shades which suit your skin tone. And finally, a hair conditioning regime - post color is, surely going to keep your hair healthy.

#7 Hanging On To Beauty Products Not Frequently Used

So when was the last time you checked the expiry of your beauty products? Or threw away the ones not frequently used? The ones laying on your vanity since a few months now? Don't hang on to products that you do not use frequently. Since your fingers are your applicators most of the times, bacteria build up in jars & bottles & end up on your face. As a rule of thumb, make sure you regularly sort your makeup & throw away any products which were used/not used for 6 months.

Until next time - prenez soin de vous !
